How to Measure Speargun Band Length

Consistent reference points matter more than speed when you measure band geometry.

Reference points first

Measure from the same physical points every time: band hole or rubber path at the muzzle, and the shaft fin or notch where the wishbone engages. Inconsistent reference points can produce different results even when the setup did not change.

Pull distance (D)

Pull distance is the one-way distance from the muzzle reference to the loading fin or notch. It is a required input in the band-length calculation and should be measured in either centimeters or inches.

Wishbone allowance (W)

Wishbone effective length is the distance between rubber connection points after assembly. Include cones or bushings when they contribute to that effective distance.

Muzzle path allowance (M)

Muzzle path allowance is the additional rubber path created by the muzzle geometry. It is not automatically equal to overall muzzle width. Use 0 only when your pull-distance measurement already includes that additional path.

Working length vs raw cut length

The calculator output is working band length between connection points. Raw rubber cut length may need extra material for knots, inserts, cones or assembly technique, so it should not be treated as identical by default.
